PE and Sport at SSMS

Research has shown that PE and School Sport delivered well is proven to have a positive impact on attainment and academic achievement, it can engage young people in learning and support the development of skills needed for success both within and outside of the classroom.

Here at Seaton Sluice Middle School we aim to develop the whole child. As previously mentioned PE is the ideal subject to do this as we can focus on the skills you need in every-day life. Invaluable skills such as communication, leadership, and teamwork are at the forefront of how we assess a child’s progress. The diagram below shows the other strands of PE and areas we assess. Our curriculum includes traditional sports such as football, netball, and gymnastics and some less traditional areas such as sports leadership and problem solving.

We have been awarded gold kite-mark by the Sainsbury’s School Games for our commitment to afterschool clubs and School Games level 1, 2, and 3 entries. Physical Education and a school’s involvement in the School Games, either as competitors, leaders or performers has a positive impact on many whole school priorities such as SMSC, G&T, SEN, behaviour and attainment.
